We are hiring a Part-time Activities Assistant to join our Activities Department. This individual will be responsible for assisting the Activities Director in administering all recreational programs in the Independent/Assisted Living departments. They will support volunteers, assist in program planning, lead activities, and ensure accurate charting of activities for state compliance.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates activities in the Elmwood Care Center.
  • Coordinates in-room programs with community members.
  • Lead group activities and help with those in need.
  • Assists Activities Director when needed in obtaining speakers, performers, and civic groups.
  • Assists Activities Director with new ideas and suggestions for activity schedule.
  • Ensures accurate charting of all Elmwood Care Center community members' activities to meet State compliance.
  • Assist residents in getting to and from the on-site hair salon.
  • Assist with Beauty shop inquiries/ setting up appointments and informing residents/ family of scheduled appointments.
  • Responsible for the proper care and use of supplies and equipment.
  • Creates promotional literature as needed
  • Monthly decorating, poster boards, and other crafts.
  • Assists in maximizing participation at all programs by assisting residents to and from group activities.
  • Updating Daily Newsletter
  • Aids in creating and administering activity goals.
  • Attending resident care plan meetings as needed.
  • Attending conferences and meetings in the Activity field when needed.
  • Develops and plans activities to meet the ongoing needs of residents in the Elmwood Care Center.
  • Maintains appropriate Activities calendars to meet state and federal requirements as needed.
  • Completes all resident assessments according to state and federal requirements as needed.

  • Support, and oversee volunteers
  • Purchases and maintains all necessary supplies for community members’ activities.
  • Make sure the activity areas are neat and tidy at the conclusion of programs.
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • As part of the care team, You may be asked to support residents and staff with the following duties as needed:
    • Call Tray Line to order meals for residents who want to eat in the dining room or may want something different to eat.
    • Respond to call lights promptly and courteously.
    • Accompany residents to medical appointments as needed.
    • Provide support in the role of Ward Clerk when required.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Activities Director, Staff Developer, or Director of Nursing (DON).

JOB SPECIFICATION:
  • Part-Time: 
    • Days/Schedule: Weekends/ Holidays - 8:30-5:00pm
**This non-exempt position is part-time with various hours. Work hours shall remain flexible to meet the needs of the facility, its staff, operations and community/industrial involvement. ** EXPERIENCE:
  • Must have general knowledge in activities directed for seniors and/or related experience as an Activities Assistant
  • Experience working with the elderly is preferred
  • Previous experience in event planning/coordination and educational/recreational activities is desired
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer savvy with experience in Microsoft Office and Canva
  • Generate enthusiasm for all Activity programs
  • Effectively communicate and deal tactfully with staff, community members, families, visitors, and volunteers
  • Empathy and the heart to work with the senior community
  • Caregiving experience is a plus
  • At least one year experience in a geriatric setting preferred. Must be familiar with all state policies and regulations regarding the Health Center.
